<p>Wool carpet is a natural insulator, helping to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Because of wool’s natural inbuilt crimp, air is retained in millions of tiny pockets which provide an insulating effect, thus creating a comfortable environment.</p>

<p>The unique properties of wool react to changes in temperature, absorbing and desorbing significant quantities of moisture from the air to control humidity. In cold, damp conditions (high relative humidity) moisture is absorbed by wool and heat is given off. In warm dry conditions, moisture is released by wool, resulting in a cooling effect.</p>

<p>The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), and local affiliate the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA), are organisations committed to driving sustainable change in the Australian Built environment through the development of leading edge programs, that are designed to radically change our approach to building and construction.</p>

<p>Predicated on creating a healthier built environment, the Declare® program delivers clear, unambiguous information about building material specifications. Participating manufacturers are required to disclose a Product’s entire constituent chemical composition to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million; essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients.</p>

<h3><strong>A product transparency program</strong></h3>

<p>Each Declare® label is compared against a list of worst-inclass materials, better known as the Red List. Chemicals on the Red List can pose an increased risk of:</p>

	<li>Polluting the environment</li>
	<li>Bio-accumulation of contaminants progressing up the food chain</li>
	<li>Negative health implications for factory personnel, construction industry workers and building occupants</li>

<p>All our wool carpets have insect resistant treatments applied during manufacture. </p>

<p>The treatment does not stop insects from entering your home and moths/ beetles can build up an immunity and in some areas have developed a tolerance to treatments. The insect deterrent treatment is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be ingested by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading – such that some fibre loss may occur and good housekeeping is essential.</p>

<p>As a prerequisite for the ECS program, carpet manufacturers must comply with the Code of Practice for Environmental Management (including performance criteria for raw materials, the manufacturing process, the carpet during its use and at the end of its life).</p>

<p>ECS Level 4+ is the highest standard within the ECS program. This stringent program is a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) approved third party, with Green Star Level 4 certification providing at least a minimum of 12 Green Star points.</p>

A renewable material, wool is shorn from sheep every 9-12 months and produced by sheep consuming a totally renewable resource - grass.</p>

<p>Fractals are the building blocks of many of nature’s patterns and have been scientifically proven to reduce stress and so provide benefits to physical health. This visual language is the basis for Relaxing Floors, a modular system designed by 13&9 in collaboration with Fractals Research and Mohawk Group. Relaxing Floors is the culmination of art, science and human-centered design based on fractal patterns. Using positive and negative space, creating tonal shifts, and pushing boundaries of abstracted subject matter, Optic Reset allows you to create your own visual narratives with dual styles in shifting colourways of light and dark. The visuals give us cues for our other senses, and they are how we understand the world. And with Optic Reset, interior space can be created with subtle or dramatic views on the floor.</p>

<p>This concept is illustrative of The Visual Age, where there is visual literacy and creative democracy for all, and we have become fluent in the elements of graphics, photography, design, and art. Social media especially has influenced this, allowing for self-expression and creativity to come together to unite us with a sense of purpose on our collective path.</p>

Inspired by expansive communities of lichens that grow together on bark and rock formations, playing a role in our ecosystems, the Lichen Community collection has been designed to provide a refined solution for creating collaborative environments, bringing people together. Rooted in the concept of symbiosis, Lichen Community defines communal spaces through colour and texture. This fresh take on the original Lichen collection offers an additional bark texture to join the popular stone base, serving as ground textures for the multi-hued lichens that grow together in place.</p>


<h2>Biophilic design, locally made</h2>
<p>Biophilic design aims to enhance humankind’s innate biological connection with nature, bringing natural elements into interior spaces and mimicking natural patterns. This new collection concentrates on mimicking the growth patterns of real lichens on stone and tree bark, incorporating colours that takes us on a visual journey through the forest, from the floor into the trees with the new warm, bark-grey background and soft, more muted highlights. Drawing from the natural world allows us to create spaces a little more connected to our roots, which can have a profound impact the health and wellbeing of building occupants.</p>

<p>One of the key features of Lichen Community is its biophilic three-plank system which allows for wayfinding and the creation of unique large-scale installations.
