Established as one of New Zealand’s most respected architectural accolades, Home of the Year recognises homes that push boundaries, respond intelligently to their environment, and reflect a thoughtful collaboration between architect and client. Each year, the awards shine a spotlight on homes that not only look extraordinary, but speak to how New Zealanders live now — and how we aspire to live in the future.

The programme features categories that honour the diversity of residential design across the country, including City Home of the Year, Small Home of the Year, Coastal Home of the Year, Rural Home of the Year, Green Home of the Year, Alt & Reno Home of the Year, and Multi-Unit Home of the Year. Each category recognises the unique architectural challenges and opportunities presented by different locations, scales, and lifestyles.

Every category winner receives a professionally produced video package valued at $10,000, along with extensive media exposure through HOME magazine and its channels. From these finalists, one home is selected as the overall Home of the Year, receiving an additional $10,000 cash prize.

The overall winner is chosen for more than just its visual impact. It is awarded to a home that captures a cultural and architectural moment — a design that resonates beyond its physical form. At its heart, Home of the Year celebrates the refinement of an idea: when a client’s aspirations align seamlessly with an architect’s vision, resolved into a piece of architecture that feels both of its time and enduring.
