Wool carpets are naturally hypoallergenic making them suitable for those with allergies.

Naturally Insulating 
Wool absorbs moisture in the air and controls humidity for a comfortable environment, making it cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Wool carpet can also absorb and desorb significant quantities of moisture from the air to buffer humidity changes in a room.

Fire Resistance 
Wool carpet has natural flame resistant properties due to its ability to char when burnt and not melt like synthetic fibres. It retains heat and starves its surface of air, extinguishing flames.

Stain Resistance 
The wool fibres natural structure consists of overlapping scales, arranged much like roof shingles. These scales inhibit dirt from adhering to the fibre and help fleck it away.
NOTE: eventually the wool will naturally absorb stains so cleaning is best done immediately.

Biodegradable 
As a natural resource, wool fibre is biodegradable. When wool fibre is disposed of, it will naturally decompose in soil in a matter of months or years, slowly releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth.

Renewable 
A renewable material, wool is shorn from sheep every 9-12 months and produced by sheep consuming a totally renewable resource - grass.

In a marketplace increasingly focused on environmental considerations and issues around sustainability, Godfrey Hirst are incredibly proud to have products officially certified Declare® LBC Red List Free.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), and local affiliate the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA), are organisations committed to driving sustainable change in the Australian Built environment through the development of leading edge programs, that are designed to radically change our approach to building and construction.

Predicated on creating a healthier built environment, the Declare® program delivers clear, unambiguous information about building material specifications. Participating manufacturers are required to disclose a Product’s entire constituent chemical composition to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million; essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients.

<h3>A product transparency program</h3>

Each Declare® label is compared against a list of worst-inclass materials, better known as the Red List. Chemicals on the Red List can pose an increased risk of:

	<li>Polluting the environment</li>
	<li>Bio-accumulation of contaminants progressing up the food chain</li>
	<li>Negative health implications for factory personnel, construction industry workers and building occupants</li>
</ul>

Aware of our role in developing products that homeowners can comfortably put in their homes, we worked with our entire supply chain to identify, source and utilise the healthiest possible manufacturing ingredients. When we were confident our products met the stringent sustainability and toxic free chemical standards, we applied for LFIA Declare® certification.

All our wool carpets have insect resistant treatments applied during manufacture. 

The treatment does not stop insects from entering your home and moths/ beetles can build up an immunity and in some areas have developed a tolerance to treatments. The insect deterrent treatment is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be ingested by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading – such that some fibre loss may occur and good housekeeping is essential.

Our most popular carpets and hard flooring, the Mid-range carpet and hard flooring category offers all-around performance with excellent comfort, design and features, including stain resistant carpet, wear resistant carpet, soil resistance carpet and fade resistant carpet that’s often Australian made, New Zealand made and designed for local conditions. 
Mid-range hard flooring options include extra scratch resistant flooring, dent resistant flooring, engineered flooring that looks just like real timber, water resistant flooring and more. Textured Loop Pile uses loops of varying heights to create unique patterns and interesting textures. The loops ensure a hard-wearing carpet that works well in medium to high-traffic rooms.

As a prerequisite for the ECS program, carpet manufacturers must comply with the Code of Practice for Environmental Management (including performance criteria for raw materials, the manufacturing process, the carpet during its use and at the end of its life).

ECS Level 4+ is the highest standard within the ECS program. This stringent program is a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) approved third party, with Green Star Level 4 certification providing at least a minimum of 12 Green Star points.
