The BuildHer8, Rathmines North House

The Rathmines North House is a home designed with a nod to a calmer life. Natural light, natural materials and changes in volumes are key to this home’s success. Textural and tonal materiality are woven throughout with entertaining and family living always in mind. Warm and inviting the North House was designed to be shared with family and friends alike. This is the first project of the joint venture by the BuildHer8 Masterclass graduates, along with in collaboration with Ben Callery Architects and Peachy Green residential landscape designers, producing a high-end family home with a 7 Star energy rating.

The team were committed to building a beautiful, warm and healthy home, incorporating a range of sustainability measures that included all electric (no gas), passive solar architectural design, cross-ventilation, eaves and window shrouds, reclaim heat pump hot water system, 9.1kw solar system with Tesla Powerwall and rainwater tanks.

The sustainable design was also underpinned by the use of recycled and natural materials wherever possible, with the liberal use of timbers, marble counters and wool carpets throughout.

Feltex chunky wool carpet range 8th Wonder was installed in all four bedrooms and the sunken lounge, its warm tones provide the perfect neutral base for the richly textured interior design.  Pure, biodegradable and renewable, wool is also naturally insulating, noise dampening and stain resistant, with a cosy underfoot softness that’s perfect for lounging on.

8th Wonder wool carpet’s organic, textured chunky loop also doesn’t show track marks, its inherent structural crimp rebounding and refreshing for a surface that will stay looking new for years to come.
