Good luck to Bates Smart for the Vibe Airport Hotel in Canberra and Hassell for Ovolo Woolloomooloo in Sydney.
Each is shortlisted for the Interior Design Excellence Awards in Hospitality to be announced at the Gala Event in Sydney Friday, 18 November.
The Interior Design Excellence Awards is Australia’s largest and most successful independent design awards program. Celebrating the best of Australian interior and product design across 11 categories and five Special Awards.
Since the program's launch in 2003, it now attracts hundreds of entries from practices and designers from across Australia.
Entries are judged by a panel of design industry professionals, each bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the judging process. As well as attracting submissions from some of the country’s leading architecture and design firms, the program also supports emerging local designers.
Once announced at the IDEA Gala Party in November, winning projects and designers will be published online and profiled in a special IDEA 2016 edition of Inside magazine.
We are delighted to have been a part of these stunning projects, Feltex Woven Axminster for the Canberra Airport Hotel and Hycraft wool carpet for the Ovolo in Woolloomooloo and wish you both the very best of luck.
Canberra Airport Hotel
Capturing the essence of Walter Burley Griffin’s Canberra was integral to the architecture and interiors of the Vibe Airport Hotel. It is a dramatic space with a random constellation of circular skylights. Interior elements and screens reference the building’s circular geometry, including enclosed functions, which are contained within gold clad pods.
Revitalising a prominent Sydney landmark, Hassell created a stunning interior for the Ovolo hotel group bringing the brand's vision to life. Young, energetic, boutique, cheeky and accessible, the stunning hotel has eight unique guest room designs, deliberately atmospheric, luxurious and quirky.
